Lady's Bridge is a Sheffield landmark and the oldest bridge to cross the river Don. Richard says "I used to walk across it nearly every days, it was the gateway from the poor bit of town to the rich bit." Lady's Bridge is the follow up to Hawley's Gold selling 2005 debut album Coles Corner, also named after a Sheffield landmark.
Lady's Bridge was recorded and produced in Sheffield at Yellow Arch by Hawley and Colin Elliott. Unfortunately I can think of not a single positive comment to make about Hawley's music. It is dire. I simply couldn't enjoy it in any way. I found it miserable, downright soulless and tuneless to the point where it was offensive to me and I just had to turn it off and smash it into many tiny pieces so that no one else would have to endure it.
I simply can't imagine this sort of music appealing to anyone. It is the most morose music that I have come across in many years. There is nothing to pull you in, Hawley weaves no spell. There is nothing upbeat about it and it sapped my very soul of any fun or joy. Hawley has just begun a fifteen date tour of the UK which will end on the 21st September.
