As one of Manchester's best bands in recent years, Elbow have steadily built up a stellar reputation since their debut in 2001. They seem to hit the happy medium between indie darlings and rock heroes, never been so popular so that the indie types will claim they ‘sold out', but not being so obscure that they are not a success. They've hit a great balance.
‘Grounds for Divorce' is the first single from forthcoming new album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid' which is due to be released in March. A wonderful, slow burning rock song which is the typical ‘first song from an album', in that it's strong, well sang and generally very impressive. Singing about the death of close friend Bryan Clancy (himself a singer-songwriter), Guy Garvey's vocals combine rock with soul, and ensure that the song never veers from being the haunting, yet stirring, epic it is. A very promising return from Elbow then, and hopefully a signal that the new album will continue to build their reputation amongst music fans. ‘Grounds for Divorce' is released on the tenth of March, and hopefully will achieve the success it deserves. www.elbow.co.uk/ |
