ImageSet in the stunning, picturesque surroundings of the beautiful Lake District, Kendal Calling has become one of the country's most loved festivals. With a big main stage, this year playing host to performances from some of the UK's biggest names, such as Dizzee Rascal, James, Maximo Park, and many more, a huge dance tent, and a plethora of small and interesting stages hosted in quirky tents, Kendal Calling is a great chance to see both big and up and coming artists in a truly gorgeous setting. But with so much of offer, it's easy to get slightly overwhelmed. Not to worry! Here's festival director Ben Robinson with a selection of his highlights at this year's Kendal Calling...

ImageThe return of the ‘Pip!
Scroobius Pip performed at Kendal Calling in 2008, as did Dizzee Rascal. It was the first year we had a dedicated dance tent and he rocked it with Dan Le Sac providing the beats. His passionate and powerful lyrics and view on the world really strikes a chord with what the festival is all about too... such as "we don't want to expand the scene, we want the scene to erupt."

We're very lucky to have a festival first with him performing with his new band project on the main stage followed by a set with Dan Le Sac in the Glow tent. An inspiring character to watch out for.

Closing the dance tent on the Sunday night will be my current favourite mash up DJ A-Skillz. His mixes are something that will get any one in a party mood with funk, electro, hip hop and about everything else thrown into the show.

Extra Curricular
Playing on Chai Wallah. I saw these guys in Leeds last year and was blown away. Such an amazing vibe mixing elements of soul, rock and hip hop with modern bass driven beats. I think they will be a real surprise for anyone who watches them, in the best way possible.

Chai Wallahs
These guys are a touring venue that go up and down the country each summer at loads of independent UK festivals. We've ben speaking to them for a few years and are thrilled they have brought their unique and beautiful venue to Kendal Calling this year, it has an amazing charm to it and is filled with eclectic music and some delightful food too.

King Charles as a highlight playing not just one set in Calling Out but also Riot Jazz.

New areas for 2012!
Tim Peaks Diner who will be serving up DJs, art, book readings, acoustic sessions, special guests and damn fine coffee! Not to mention the exclusive limited edition Totes Amazeballs cereal.

Plus the new Woodlands stage! Check it out.
